SALINAS, CA – Sun Street Centers will be collaborating with the County of Monterey and multiple community entities, including Door to Hope, Hartnell College, Community Human Services and the Salinas Host Lions Club to promote the 25th annual National Recovery Month in Monterey County. September is recognized as National Recovery Month, and it’s purpose is to promote the societal benefits of prevention, treatment, and recovery for mental and substance use disorders, celebrate people in recovery, laud the contributions of treatment and service providers, and promote the message that recovery in all its forms is possible.

This year’s National Recovery Month theme is “Join the Voices for Recovery: Speak Up, Reach Out”. Sun Street Centers will promote and celebrate recovery through participation in multiple community events during the month of September, including attendance at a kick-off rally at the State Capitol steps on September 3rd, receipt of multiple National Recovery Month proclamations (from the Monterey County Board of Supervisors on September 9th and multiple City Councils throughout South Monterey County, including the Gonzales City Council on September 2nd, King City and Greenfield City Councils on September 9th, and Soledad City Council on September 17th), and promotion of the documentary film “The Anonymous People” which will be featured during a free community celebration and luncheon at Hartnell College on Wednesday, September 10th (from 11 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.). The Anonymous People is a powerful and informative documentary film about the over 23 million Americans living in long-term recovery from addiction to alcohol and drugs.

“At Sun Street Centers we celebrate recovery [from alcohol and drug abuse] everyday. For over 45 years we have been committed to recovery and know, firsthand, that recovery works. We are proud to be working with other community organizations to spread the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, that prevention works, treatment is effective and that people can and do recover”, said Anna Foglia, Chief Executive Officer of Sun Street Centers.
