Sun Street Centers Board of Directors received a donation of $5000 from the Helping Hands Foundation of Monterey County at their Board meeting on Tuesday evening. The donation is for Renovations for Recovery,  a remodel of 42 year old dorms for men recovering from alcohol and drug abuse, located at 8 Sun Street in Salinas.

Helping Hands’ mission is to provide help to individuals and organizations in Monterey County who require financial assistance due to hardship.  Jerry Bunker, the Director of the Helping Hands Foundation, said “we are impressed in the professionalism of Sun Street Centers’ staff and are confident the funds would be well spent.”  Executive Director, Anna Foglia, added, “we want to create an atmosphere conducive to health and safety and personal growth; that is what our program is all about – healthy men, healthy families”

The Helping Hands Foundation of Monterey County held their Rib Eye Steak BBQ and Reverse Draw at The Rodeo Grounds on April 29th, 2010.  There were about 250 people in attendance.  Sun Street Centers ran the silent auction with great prizes donated by local businesses. Helping Hands plans two to three events per year to raise money for the needy in our community.

Along with the $5000 donation from Helping Hands, Sun Street Centers raised $3300 from the Silent Auction.  Sun Street Centers serves 300 -400 men a year at it’s residential facility serving men from all over the county with private insurance, court referred, and even those without means to pay their fees.
