150611 jd all-america03In a touching and spirited send-off ceremony for Salinas’ All-America City delegation, several hundred citizens turned out early Thursday morning to cheer the team on.

The breakfast get-together at Northridge Mall was both pep rally and meeting point for many of those going on the long bus ride.

Salinas is sending 25 of the city’s finest to Denver, Colorado, including members of Ciclovia Salinas, Coder Dojo, The Center for Community Advocacy and Youth for Change, Building Healthy Communities, and Sun Street Centers’ STEPS Program.

Mayor Joe Gunter and City Council members Steve McShane and Kimbley Craig will attend the event in Denver.

Over the course of the weekend, youth delegates will be making the case for the National Civic League’s designation as “All-America City.”

Energized by cheerleaders from Pop Warner and Alvarez, North Salinas, Palma and Salinas high schools, the delegates and their positive vibes are Denver-bound.
