Pueblo del Mar Family Recovery Community Celebrates 10 Years of Recovery Service

Who: Founded by Martin and Nancy Dodd in 1968, Sun Street Centers is celebrating its tenth year of Pueblo del Mar Family Recovery Community.

Pueblo del Mar has received many awards for its unique program serving homeless families in recovery here in Monterey County. Pueblo del Mar is the only program in Monterey County to serve families in recovery by providing safe, affordable, transitional housing program to families who are committed to their addiction recovery process.

What: Pueblo del Mar provides the following services:

Pueblo del Mar offers transitional housing (54 housing units) in a drug-free/alcohol free environment, where residents build social networks and support a system designed to foster positive lifestyles. Some of these services include: Job training, financial literacy, parent education, relapse awareness, after-school tutoring, recreational programs, on-site 12-step meetings, outpatient support groups, on-site support and case management, onsite childcare and mental health services for adults and children.

During the past ten years Pueblo del Mar has served 400 adults and 708 children, with a success rate of 87% for fiscal year 2007/08. Pueblo del Mar help to facilitate families moving off of welfare and obtain permanent employment; children reuniting with their families with the closing of CPS cases; adults graduating from the program clean/sober; families transitioning into permanent housing no longer homeless. Also, families have been provided the security, time and support to develop life skills, resources needed to remain sober and become self-sufficient; provide linkages to supportive services to empower family members; help build self-esteem, foster self-determination; assist the functioning of the family and most of all ending the cycle of addiction.
