SALINAS, CA – Sun Street Centers was one of over 80 grant recipients at the Pebble Beach Company’s Foundation 2014 Annual Grant Recipient Award Ceremony held at the Inn at Spanish Bay Resort on June 16th, 2014. The $3,000.00 grant received by Sun Street Centers is earmarked for youth drug and alcohol abuse prevention efforts, and will help pay for Life Skills Training and Gateway Drug community presentations for parents and students throughout Monterey County elementary schools. Life Skills Training is an evidence-based curriculum focused on issues that affect drug and alcohol use, such as self esteem, peer pressure, and anger management; Gateway Drug community presentations focus on providing a general overview of drugs and addiction. Sun Street Centers offers the trainings in both English and Spanish at schools and at their Prevention Centers’ locations.
The Pebble Beach Company Foundation was founded in 1975, and raises funds and distributes grants to local organizations dedicated to promoting excellence in life experiences for the youth of Monterey County. Sun Street Centers is grateful for the support received from the Pebble Beach Company and for its commitment to help serve our County’s youth and diverse populations. “Youth alcohol and drug abuse is a serious community health problem that spans all socioeconomic levels and ethnic groups. The generous grant from the Pebble Beach Company Foundation will help our effort to prevent this problem by allowing us to provide education and information in a way that is designed to reach our diverse youth populations, particularly among our under served communities.”, said Anna Foglia, Chief Executive Officer of Sun Street Centers. The grant award is also an affirmation of Sun Street Centers’ mission and its efforts to promote action and awareness among our youth. Upon being thanked for the grant award, Susan Merfeld, President of the Pebble Beach Company Foundation, indicated that “[She] looked forward to visiting Sun Street Centers and learning more about [our] good work.”
